What can I say, I'm a sucker for strings and Apple commercials. Coldplay's title track from their forthcoming Viva La Vida features violins, and is the latest band to appear in the always-trendy iTunes commercials.
'Shut Up and Let Me Go' sounds like a retro version of a Yeah Yeah Yeahs tune. The song is actually by The Ting Tings, whose album was just released on Tuesday. At just under three minutes, it's quite catchy.

The new Death Cab CD is released today. If their first single is any indication, the album is probably darker than its predecessors.
There are a couple of pretty sweetastic music videos I ran across today that I felt deserved a posting.

A snappy 80s-inspired dance hit, this video revolves around the dissection of an otter-like animal and how the humans around it benefit from its "donations." It's not hard to like an outlaw country song. Not only are they great to drink a beer to, but the best ones always seem to speak to you in all the right places. 'You Never Even Called Me By My Name' is the perfect example of such a tune.

Florence and the Machine is a self-proclaimed Grindcore band hailing from the UK. What is most enticing about this group is lead singer Florence's INCREDIBLE chops. Indeed, she lays out a soul puncturing vocal on this post's featured track, 'Girl With One Eye.'
'Grounds For Divorce' is a fresh new look at a band you thought you already knew: Elbow. This fruitful tune is full of tribal beats, rousing vocals, and a few mean guitar licks.
The he-said/she-said interplay on Dengue Fever's 'Tiger Phone Card' lends a playful tension to a song that would otherwise sound daffy. The unfolding story between the two characters is intriguing, while the song's choral hook slowly seduces the listener into devoting themselves to the track for the entire way through.
'This Is a Problem' is a dreamy track off of Great Northern's February '08 release, Sleepy Eepee. As the EP's title suggests, the record provides some great tunes to drift to sleep to.
This is a great, bouncy little tune with a great chorus. And the pipe organ makes it all the better.

Here's an uptown dance-rock tune by Neon Neon, and a strong candidate for the next worldwide summer clubbing hit. It's quite chill.
It's been a couple of years since I last posted about Bedtime for Toys, and in that time the Los Angeles electro-funk rockers have increased their lineup and developed quite the following. Not to mention, the band was included in Rolling Stone's 25 Best Bands on Myspace. 
The New Pornographers have been cutting delicious pop cuts for over a decade now, and with their latest release they haven't disappointed.

Lucinda Blackbear's charm is their lyrics. Combined with an allegiant melody, the strong songwriting makes for some introspective tuneage. Expect to see these guys featured on various coffee house stations if they haven't been already.
